CFI’s LIFE Services Returns to Bay View
After months of preparation, planning and teamwork, Centers for Independence officially reopened its Bay View Campus on Feb. 16 – bringing LIFE Services back to the space that was custom-designed for the program.
The move from 2020 W. Wells St. marks more than a change of address. For many team members and clients, returning to Bay View Campus (3333 S. Howell Ave.) feels like coming home.
“We’re truly excited to reopen this beautiful space and continue our mission of promoting inclusion, engagement and wellness in a setting designed specifically for LIFE Services participants,” said Carrie Belsky, Associate Vice President of Employment & Community Services. “The Bay View Campus allows us to build on what makes these programs special – a strong sense of community, meaningful activities and a focus on helping each person grow, learn and thrive.”
A Space Designed for Possibility
Bay View Campus is a vibrant, energetic environment, now with extensive updates to both interior and exterior areas. The campus is bright, accessible and equipped to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and brain injuries. The refreshed building includes expanded program areas that support creative arts, recreation and independent living skills, flexible rooms filled with natural light, wider hallways and more open space for comfortable movement, and a secure, accessible layout designed with clients’ needs at the center.
Team members and clients shared overwhelmingly positive first impressions of the refreshed space, noting how much easier it is to move around thanks to wider hallways and open areas. They highlighted the increased accessibility and said the environment feels more secure while still supporting independence for participants. Many also commented on the beauty of the building, the sense of possibility it brings, and how much they appreciate features like the courtyard and additional room to grow.
Connected to Community
Located in the heart of Bay View, the campus is within walking distance of parks, local shops, restaurants, and our own hoop houses and community gardens. This proximity expands opportunities for hands-on learning, community engagement and wellness activities. A Milwaukee County Transit System bus stop sits right outside the main entrance, creating new pathways for clients to practice transportation skills and confidently explore Milwaukee.
What’s Next?
Plans are underway for an open house to welcome the community into the refreshed space. Stay tuned for additional information. We are also excited for the return of the Senior LIFE program, offering adults ages 60 and older inclusive, supportive and community-focused programming.
