CFI’s Pediatric Specialty Care Program Named Heart of Canal Street Beneficiary
Play Heart of Canal Street Bingo now – Dec. 10 to help support kids in our community
Centers for Independence (CFI) is honored to be selected as a beneficiary of Potawatomi Casino Hotel’s Heart of Canal Street. This annual fundraising initiative supports 30 local nonprofits working to improve the lives of children in southeastern Wisconsin.
Heart of Canal Street funds will help support safe, reliable, medically supervised transportation for CFI’s Pediatric Specialty Care (PSC), Wisconsin’s only Medicaid-certified pediatric day program. PSC serves children from birth to 21 years of age who have complex medical conditions and developmental disabilities.
PSC’s skilled nurses provide extensive medical care such as tracheostomy management, ventilatory support, medication administration and wound care in a welcoming group setting that fosters development, education and socialization. For families, the program is a vital health resource and a lifeline, giving parents peace of mind while they work or attend to other family needs.
One of the greatest barriers PSC families face is transportation. For children with intensive medical needs, transportation often requires medically supervised, accessible vehicles. Without reliable transportation, children may miss appointments, therapies and critical early interventions, which can worsen their health outcomes and disrupt development.
“CFI is deeply grateful to be part of Potawatomi’s Heart of Canal Street,” said Heidi Chada, CFI’s Interim President and CEO. “This support eliminates a critical barrier for families and helps children receive the specialized care they need to thrive. This generous support allows children with complex medical needs to have reliable, consistent access to critical care that helps them live healthier, fuller lives.”
