CFI Serves Healthy, Tasty and FREE Summer Meals for Kids in Need

Summer is a time for kids and teens to take a break from school, but for some families, it can also mean losing access to reliable meals. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is in place to help eliminate that lack of access.

Centers for Independence is proud to sponsor this federally funded USDA program administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction that ensures children and teens have access to free, nutritious meals all summer long. Through a partnership with Hunger Task Force, we help support child nutrition during the out-of-school months, especially for families who rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school year.

Last year, CFI’s Nutrition and Employment Services Programs prepared and distributed over 166,000 meals daily to various sites across Milwaukee and surrounding areas. This year, that number is expected to be over 250,000 meals. Breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks are produced at all three of CFI’s production kitchens: Concordia 27, Innovation Wellness Commons and CFI’s Main Campus.

Free summer meals are now available at various sites in Milwaukee, Racine and Sussex. Most sites will continue serving meals through mid-August.

To find a free summer meal location near you, visit wisummerfood.org or hungertaskforce.org. You can also call 211 or text “SFSP” to 914-342-7744.
