LIFE Services’ Farm2Table Harvests More Than Vegetables
All summer long, LIFE Services clients have been planting, tending to and harvesting vegetables in our hoop houses, helping produce fresh ingredients that are enjoyed throughout the community.
From heirloom tomatoes and basil to garlic, broccolini and more, the harvest reflects months of hard work, patience and care. Many of these vegetables are sold and delivered to local restaurant partners, including Braise and Goodkind, where they become part of delicious meals. Clients have also delivered produce to local food pantries. As part of the process, they draft call scripts, research pantries in their neighborhoods and reach out to coordinate donations.
Behind this work is a dedicated group of clients who take pride in caring for our growing spaces. Week after week, they arrive ready to work, bringing enthusiasm and teamwork to every task. Whether planting seedlings, weeding garden beds or gathering fresh produce, they embrace the opportunity to spend time outdoors while contributing to something meaningful.
The impact of their work extends beyond the harvest. They were recently featured in Radio Milwaukee’s Uniquely Milwaukee series. We work in the Garden District Community Garden, a local hub where community members can grow food, share gardening tips and connect with one another. The garden has embraced our clients and provides valuable opportunities to build horticulture, communication and work skills. Their partnership plays an important role in supporting learning and creating community.
Like any garden, the growing season comes with challenges beyond our control. Yet this group continues to show resilience and commitment, showing up ready to learn, work and help each harvest succeed.
We’re proud of the work our Farm2Table trac does each day. Through their dedication, fresh produce reaches local restaurants, food pantries and community partners, creating connections that extend far beyond the garden.
