Ava smiling at PSN

For Ava and her family, leaving CFI is ‘bittersweet’

By Isaiah Brotzman, Social Media and Digital Specialist intern

In January 2021, Ava was born prematurely at 24 weeks. As a result, she underwent multiple open-hear surgeries and a tracheostomy requiring that she stay at Children’s Hospital for 456 days.

“Ava is a social baby,” said her mother Cassandra, “she loved talking and being around the nurses at Children’s, but of course she couldn’t really play with the other kids on the floor.”

Since coming to CFI, Ava has found a place where she can play with other kids, socialize and show her personality in a safe environment surrounded by professionals.

“She’s going to remember all of the people here,” her mom says, “she got her trach out in May and graduated. It’s not sad, but it’s bittersweet. We’re going to miss CFI.”
